Herbal Extracts Bank Group (Hacettepe U.) - Prof. Dr. İhsan Çalış

In order to obtain herbal extracts of medicinal value, about 100 plants (herbal medicine, teratogen, poisonous plants and etc.) are planned to be collected nationwide and after dehydration process, polar and lipid fractions will be obtained and different molecules in each fractions will be purified and isolated by using chromatography and other purification methods. The structures of each molecule obtained will be analyzed by NMR and by using some other techniques. Our first priority will be those substances containing potentially active for anti-cancer therapy. For synthetic chemistry, alkaloids and polyfenolic compounds are the promising compounds for Anti-Cancer researches. Therefore we will immediately start with these compounds. The families of plants for this purpose are Leguminosae (Fabaceae), Ranunculaceae, Solanaceae, Papaveraceae Amaryllidaceae, Lamiaceae and Scrophulariaceae. Beside these, a collection of natural products obtained by a group from Hacettepe University will also be utilized. These naturally occurring resources are mainly obtained from the family of Lamiaceae, Scrophulariacea, Fabaceae, Gentianaceae, Caprifoliaceae, Oleaceae, Globulariaceae and have a structure of glucosidic (monoterpen glucosidics, iridoits, triterpenik and steroidal saponozits, feniletanoits, lignans, antranoits and flavonoits).
